One of my all-time favorite travel deal sites for Florida hotels and experiences that I’ve used for years is www.floridavacationauction.comThink: ebay meets travel deals. I have used this site to plan romantic getaways with my husband as well as for family vacations. We’ve taken a l-o-t of trips & saved $$$ (50%-80%), thanks to Florida Vacation Auction.

What’s the scoop?  Florida hotels and other vacation-y things like museum passes, canoe trips, fishing expeditions or dolphin tours are ‘up’ or “active auction” on the site for a week at a time.  Savings are typically 50% or more! Every Sunday night at 10pm, the active auction items change.  You have until 10pm the next Sunday to bid on that week’s Florida travel deals.  From our experience, the site gets VERY busy around 9:45pm each Sunday night where folks try to bid up at the last minute and snag what they want.  At 10pm- you either win or lose your auction bid. You can always opt to “buy direct” if you just can’t wait for the deal.

You can place your bid any time during the week, entering the maximum amount you’re willing to pay for the deal. The site will proxy bid (bid on your behalf) up to that maximum amount.  Whenever someone outbids your max amount, the site will send you an alert. You can then decide to bow out of that particular auction or change your maximum amount you’re willing to pay.  If no one outbids you, at 10pm Sunday night, you’ll have the voucher in your inbox. That’s it. Easy, huh?

Our travel partners at Florida Vacation Auction have provided EVEN MORE savings for Yay for Vacay readers. Now through 12.31.19, create your FVA account, click on “credits” & type in YAY for the promo code to receive a $15 credit toward your bid.

This is NOT for last minute trips or impromptu traveling…which is why the planner in me loves this method!  The valid dates of use are usually a month or two out. Be sure to read the fine print for each item you’re bidding on as oftentimes it will only be valid for a “Sunday through Thursday night stay” or only for specific time periods.  But if you love steals and deals & are willing to plan a little, you can score AMAZING deals!

Once we won our bid on a 3 night suite stay in Sarasota, FL and a bid for a 2 night stay in Anna Maria Island, FL. We chose to combine them to make a Sun-Fri trip for our family for about $250 for the 5 nights.  Both hotels included free breakfast (a must for us) & the Sarasota hotel also included a FULL dinner for the 4 of us each night of our stay!  These hotels were well over $150/night rack rate.  Couldn’t beat that deal.….Remember that the site also includes tickets to museums, experiences and more! If you’re planning to visit Florida, make sure to pop in to see the “active” (this week’s) auctions and “upcoming auctions” on Florida Vacation Auction. It pays to plan!
